Reinvention Starts with a Spiritual Foundation
Mar 06, 2023Reinventing your life requires a commitment to doing something new, different, out of the ordinary. It is a starting over of sorts. It requires reflection, contemplation, visualization, planning and execution. It would make no sense to reinvent yourself if you skip the very foundation of transformation...a spiritual understanding.
Spirituality can be defined as any activity you engage in that connects you to something larger than yourself, which grounds you and makes you feel connected to the divine, and all the other humans on the planet. It is the quality of being concerned with the human spirit or soul.
Spirituality may involve one or more of the following activities: being involved in religion fully or somewhat, attending services in a religious setting, prayer, contemplation, meditation, journaling, group discussion, and reading material that speaks to or "feeds" your soul such as scripture, poetry or daily meditations. It also includes delving into your psychology. Understanding your own unique personality, human behavior, and your emotional intelligence would be very much a part of spiritual development.
How we approach spirituality may have a lot to do with our personalities and our psychology, and I believe it is important to do a significant amount of self-study as part of our spiritual growth and path. So if you are super religious, but you have not studied your own psychology, you are missing something significant. There is spiritual growth in understanding your own tendencies and habits, strengths and shortcomings.
Routine and Ritual for Spirituality
People who live from their spirituality, typically have routines and rituals for feeding their spirit with knowledge and information that uplifts their mind and heart. Some people attend church services every weekend. They might pray daily or hold special group learning and prayer sessions. Others who aren't into religion so much might engage in a daily morning reading that gets them to think about the essence of life in a different way. You do not have to be "religious" and attending services to have a spiritual life.
Creating a habit of spiritual activity is a positive move for someone who wants to change. The habit will change you. It certainly has changed me! Having a morning routine of meditation, prayer and reading sets me up for the day. I feel grounded and confident in knowing who I am, who I serve and what my actions should be for the day.
Without a spiritual and psychological foundation of understanding, we have no anchor. We need a place to stand.
My mission is to help women find their purpose, create a vibrant system of living, and then move into action to joyfully serve their families, communities and the world. I believe every woman is whole, resourceful and creative. Women need to get in touch with who they are at their core, what they value most, and develop their abilities to serve.
Here are a few resources to get you started on a spiritual journey. If you already have a spiritual path, why not expand it to include something you aren't currently practicing. By the way, PRACTICE is a key word here. Practicing spiritual activities brings true growth, peace and contentment.
